This course meets the requirements set down by OFSTED and EYFS It covers vital theory and practical techniques for all aspects of paediatric first aid.

Who is this course suitable for?

This course is suitable for anybody who has responsibility for children and babies in a professional setting including nannies, child- minders, nursery workers and au pairs in  schools, nurseries or at home.

Course content

The course provides a sound knowledge of the theory and delivery of all first aid procedures that may be required when dealing with children and infants. It will enable students to recognise and treat some significant childhood illnesses and conditions.

• First Aid priorities
• Legal responsibilities
• Managing incidents
• Primary and secondary assessment
• Resuscitation procedures – infant (0-1), child (1-7 & 7-16)
• Principles of resuscitation
• Disorders of respiration/ hypoxia
• Poisoning
• Shock and control of bleeding
• Problems associated with exposure to heat and cold
• Burns and scalds
• Bone, joint and muscle injuries
• Bites and stings
• Foreign bodies
• Head injuries
• Childhood conditions

Assessment and certification

This course is continuously assessed
Certificates will be awarded on the successful completion of the entire course. Certificates are certified for professional use and are valid for 3 years

Paediatric emergency First Aid (1 day)

This one-day course focuses on emergency scenarios that may face those looking after babies and children.

In line with Ofsted Early Years and Childcare Register requirements, at least one person who has a current full paediatric First Aid certificate must be on the premises and available at all times when children are present, and must accompany children on outings. Childminders, and any assistant who might be in sole charge of the children for any period of time, must hold a current full paediatric first aid certificate.

Who should attend?

This course is for people working with and caring for babies and young children.

What you will learn?

The role and responsibility of the emergency paediatric first aider and have the ability to assess an emergency situation and prioritise your actions.

The course will look at;

Unresponsive but breathing normally and the recovery position
Unresponsive and not breathing normally and Cardiopulmonary
resuscitation(CPR)
Burns and scalds
Bone,joint and muscle injuries
Bites and stings
Foreign bodies
Head injuries
Seizures
Choking
Bleeding and shock

First Aid Baby and Child 

None of us want to consider a child being involved in an emergency situation , but learning First Aid will give you the confidence and skills to help should you ever need to.

Who is this course suitable for?

The course is designed with parents and carers in mind,  it is not for certified professional use.

No previous experience is required.

 Course content

Dealing with an child or baby emergency including; unresponsive breathing and non breathing, choking, fever and febrile seizure, seizures, head injury, burns, severe allergic reactions, poisons, bleeding, nosebleed, asthma attack, broken bones, sprains and strains.

This course is not assessed or certified. The trainer will ensure all delegates are confident with the skills taught.
